BRIEF HISTORY OF AROMATHERAPY
The term “aromatherapy” is fairly young. It was first used in the 20th century by French Chemist Gattefossé, however the practice of using aromatic botanicals and oils dates back thousands of years.
The Chinese are believed to have been one of the first cultures to use aromatic botanicals and oils to create harmony and balance. Aromatherapy can also be traced back to the great ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome where essential oils were valued for their many beneficial health and aromatic uses. Egyptians are known to have created some of the first distillation machines, so they could extract oils used in the embalming of the dead.
