Promoting Restfulness when Gaining an Hour of Sleep

Posted by farm 2 aromatherapy on

Gaining an hour of sleep sounds like a dream come true, but truly taking advantage of that extra time is more complicated than just adjusting your alarm clock. When preparing for the end of day light saving time, we need to remember that our internal clock is not aware of the time change and we need to make changes to our routine to help reset our internal clock.

Aromatherapy is a great tool for establishing and adjusting routines because fragrance and memory are linked. So as your internal clock adjusts to the time change, connect your routines to fragrance to help indicate to your body when it is time to wind down and when it is time to wake up (Read about some of the science behind it here).

Since we are gaining an hour of sleep this weekend we will focus on fragrances that will help you wind down and relax, so you can take full advantage of the extra hour. Farm to Aromatherapy fragrances that are great to help you wind down are Lavender, Relaxation, and Serenity. We have these essential oil infused fragrances available in candles, room mists, reed diffusers, wax melts and incense. All of our products have the aromatherapy benefit list on the packaging or you can find it on our Aromatherapy Benefits page.

Make Fragrance the 1st Step in your Nightly Routine

Our Farm to Aromatherapy essential oil infused candles, wax melts, and incense are great products to use in step one because they involve the initial action of lighting a candle or turning on a wax warmer or lighting incense. They will also provide continuous fragrance throughout your nightly routine. Be sure to extinguish the candle or incense you are using and turn off your wax warmer before going to sleep.

Make Fragrance the Final Step in your Nightly Routine

Use a room mist or reed diffuser to reinforce the fragrance you have been using throughout your nightly routine. If you want a powerful burst of aromatherapy use the room mist right before you lay down for the night. If you would like a subtler aromatherapy experience, use a reed diffuser on your bedside table and flip the reeds to refresh the fragrance right before bed.
