Homemade Household Cleaners Using Essential Oils

Posted by farm 2 aromatherapy on

Some store bought cleaners have a harsh chemical smell, and most homemade household cleaners use vinegar which also does not smell beautiful. So here at Farm to Aromatherapy, we have gathered up some recipes for homemade household cleaners that include our essential oils to add delightful fragrances to your home. Keep reading if you’re ready to add Farm to Aromatherapy to your cleaning routine.

Kitchen Counter Cleaner

For this cleaner you will need distilled white vinegar, water, a spray bottle, and two of your favorite Farm to Aromatherapy 100% pure essential oils. The spray bottle will need to be able to hold about 3 and a half cups. Combine 3 cups of water, ¼ cup of distilled white vinegar, 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil, 5-10 drops of your second favorite essential oil in your spray bottle, then cover and shake well. You will need to shake well before each use to make sure that the ingredients are combined.

The grime fighting power in this cleaner comes from the acidity of the distilled white vinegar, but so does the vinegar smell. To mitigate the vinegar smell, use our essential oils. We suggest using lemon or peppermint essential oils because of their malodor combating abilities. Lemon and Lavender are always a good combination. Peppermint and Eucalyptus go well together too.

Recipe for Kitchen Counter Cleaner:

1 spray bottle

3 cups water

¼ cup distilled white vinegar

10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil

5-10 drops of your second favorite essential oil

Glass Cleaner

For the glass cleaner you will need water, distilled white vinegar, your favorite Farm to Aromatherapy essential oil, and a spray bottle. The spray bottle will need to be able to hold about 3 cups. Combine 1 cup water, 1 cup distilled white vinegar, and 5-10 drops of your favorite 100% pure essential oil in the spray bottle, then cover and shake well. Shake the spray bottle before each use to make sure the mixture is combined.

The vinegar will help your windows sparkle and the Farm to Aromatherapy essential oils will help your house smell as clean as it looks. Pro-tip: Use newspaper to wipe cleaner off windows for less streaking.

Recipe for Glass Cleaner:

1 spray bottle

1 cup water

1 cup distilled white vinegar

5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil

Mold & Mildew Spray

This mixture will make about 4oz of spray. You will need a spray bottle, hydrogen peroxide, water, lemon essential oil, eucalyptus essential oil, and a third essential oil of your choice. The amount of essential oil you put in this mixture can vary based on how strong of a fragrance you would like. If you would rather the mixture smell like clean lemon, then use more lemon essential oil. If you would rather the mixture smell more like refreshing eucalyptus, then use more eucalyptus essential oil than lemon essential oil. Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and stir. After the ingredients are sufficiently combined, pour them into a spray bottle.

Spray the mold & mildew spray on any surface in your home that has mold or mildew, then let that sit for 10-15 minutes before scrubbing and wiping it away. The hydrogen peroxide provides the cleaning power, while the Farm to Aromatherapy essential oils combat the mold and mildew smell. This mixture is not recommended for use on dark surfaces because it can cause discoloration.

Recipe for Mold & Mildew Spray:

1 spray bottle

1/4 cup of water

1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide

5-10 drops of lemon essential oil

5-10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil

5 drops of a third essential oil of your choice

All-Purpose Cleaner

This all-purpose cleaning spray combines simple ingredients and essential oils for cleaning power and wonderful fragrance. This mixture makes about 2 cups of cleaner, so make sure your spray bottle can hold that much. Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and stir. Then, pour the mixture into the spray bottle. This mixture is not recommended for use on dark surfaces because it can cause discoloration.
